Call Out For Steering Group
The Middle Floor is looking for Leeds based artists who would like to chat with us and other artists in the city about our organisation and how we run.
We want to make sure we put artists first and work with them as much as we can, especially coming out of the pandemic.
A little bit about us:
We are three people, Marie, Imogen and Lotte, we work in a flat structure (we all get paid the same, we all have equal say) and we are a not for profit organisation so all the money we make goes back into the space or artistic programme.
It is our goal to contribute where we can to the artistic community in Leeds.
We host performances, R&Ds, workshops, put on events & series of classes (so far mainly movement based - but we would love for that to expand)
We want to invite local artists to an initial paid meeting where we want to discuss:
Artists wants/needs in Leeds
New organisational structures which would put artists first
New application processes which assess hierarchies and power structures between organisations & artists
The initial meeting will be 2 hours long and you will be paid at £25 per hour.
This meeting will take place on Zoom.
If you decide to take part in this you don’t commit to any further meetings or actions.
Possible dates are:
Monday 14th June 6pm
Wednesday 16th June 6pm
Tuesday 22nd June 6pm
Wednesday 23rd June 6pm
Thursday 24th June 6pm
We don’t want to be gatekeepers to space or funding would love to create a space which is inclusive, generous and works for the people it is meant to support – artists.
If you are interested in being part of this conversation, you can send us an email on firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 7th June with:
a short paragraph why you would like to be involved in this initial conversation
a short paragraph about you/your practice
your access needs
which dates work for you
We are also happy to accept video recordings if writing is not your thing.
By short paragraph we mean short (a few sentences are totally fine).
We have a limited capacity for this initial meeting and attendees will be a mixture of invited, longstanding collaborators and new artists, but anyone who contacts us will be considered for future opportunities/meetings/conversations.
For this initial meeting we will choose attendees based on artforms/practices & experience, as we would like to have a wide range of input for the development of the space.
